What is Acne?

Acne is a condition that directly affects the skin’s oily glands. The pores in your skin are connected to these glands by the follicle. When the follicle is obstructed this is how a pimple is formed. Pimples can be caused by the hair within the area, sebum, and skin cells being lumped together. Bacteria build up causes the area to swell, break down, and cause a pimple. Pimples can be found all over the body, but most commonly they are found in the following areas:

  • Face
  • Neck
  • Chest
  • Back
  • Shoulders

What types of acne?

There are many different types of acne to look out for, and some you may not have considered “acne” in the past,.
Here are the most common types:
Whiteheads – These pimples stay underneath the surface of the skin. This forms when the pore gets clogged by dead skin cells, oil, and bacteria.
Blackheads – This type of acne rises from underneath the skin’s surface and is black in color. This is due to a clogged hair follicle. This type is more common on the face, but can be seen in other parts of the body.
Papules – Small pink bumps that can be very tender and uncomfortable.
Pustules – This acne can be redder in color near the bottom of the production and usually has pus on the top.

What causes acne?

The main cause is unknown since anyone can get acne, it’s been very difficult to pinpoint, but there are times in life when it seems to flare up more than others. When you are a teenager your hormones are going crazy, and this can cause your oil glands to produce more, and essentially clog themselves. Your hormones can also go a little nutty when you are pregnant. Other people have acne written in their genes and it is unavoidable. Finally, make up can cause acne, because it clogs your pores. Always remember to remove your makeup and clean your face at night before bed.
